At ONCO, we take data quality seriously. ONCOLog’s Custom Quality Control (QC) Edits supplement NAACCR and state edits to give you the ability to catch additional errors or data incongruence in real-time at the end of the abstract. We’ll provide you with an additional basic edit set that will assist in catching common quality errors and we’ll work with you to develop additional edits to meet the needs of your registry.
The goals of the new offering include:
- Decreasing minor errors
- With all of the major changes going on in the database, it’s sometimes easy to miss the minor things. Custom QC Edits provides you some basic edits not covered by NAACCR and allows you to create your own quality edits to target common errors you see in your registry.
- Examples:
- Site Code .9 report – ensuring NOS site code is reviewed before being used
- Class of Case – Diagnosis date of first contact and date of initial diagnosis correspond to Class of Case
- Avoid Blanks – build your own casefinding, abstracting, or non-reportable edits to make sure that the fields you deem required are not left blank
- Providing edits customized to YOUR Cancer Registry
- Ability to custom build edits based on what your registry feels is valuable. This includes the ability to create edits to check your facility’s custom fields
- Example:
- if you’ve created a Quality Control Review date for Physician Review, you can create an edit to ensure that the date entered isn’t before the abstract was completed
- Providing reminders to check for common treatment pathways
- We’ll provide you with edits to support clinical quality metrics such as CP3R. The edits will serve as reminders if treatment isn’t coded.
- Example:
- Patient has breast conservation surgery and radiation is listed as Not Part of Planned 1st Course of Treatment (01). A QC Warning Edit will remind the abstractor to double-check for radiation treatment as it may have been given at another facility.
- Increase departmental efficiency
- Catches quality errors in real-time reducing your error rate.
- Increases productivity as abstractors catch errors in real-time and won’t have to revisit the chart
- Let’s you customize what you commonly look for or target specific errors you normally see from your abstractors
- Helps you avoid the redundancy of revisiting CP3R years down the line because the treatment is entered right the first time
- Helps ensure your custom fields that your facility deems important enough to add to the database are entered correctly
